Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous part of State of the Union State of Tanzania in East Africa.The area consists of the two neighboring islands of Unguja (also formerly known as Zanzibar) and Pemba , with each side islands , as well as the remote little island-Latham , all in the Zanzibar archipelago . The geographically also the Zanzibar archipelago projected Island Mafia is not quite in the south part of the area, but it belonged to the Sultanate of Zanzibar until 1885. In 2007, the total population of 1,155,065.

On 10 December 1963 acquired the Sultanate and former British protectorate of Zanzibar’s independence. On 12 January 1964 was proclaimed the People’s Republic of Zanzibar and Pemba . (Were the islands from 1698 until April 6, 1861 part of the Sultanate after a bloody revolution, the black majority population against the Arab-born elite Oman ) declared himself independent Zanzibar and tended very quickly to the socialist camp. Of 18 January 7th April 1964 was the island of Pemba, an independent People’s Republic . Under intense political pressure from outside Zanzibar joined on 26 April 1964 with the independent Tanganyika together to the new state of Tanzania .
