Wagga Wagga is a town in New South Wales on the Murrumbidgee River . With some 50,000 inhabitants, Wagga Wagga is the largest city in the interior of New South Wales, the fifth largest city in the interior of Australia and the capital of the Riverina . The area was first in the history of white Australia by Charles Sturt in 1829 and settled sightings from the 1830s. The name comes from Wagga Wagga to the language of the Wiradjuri – Aboriginal word meaning “many crows”.

The city is located 475 km southwest of Sydney , 240 kilometers from Canberra and 440 km from Melbourne , at the junction of the Sturt Highway (east-west) and the Olympic Way (north-south).
