As one of Australia’s premier holiday destinations, Melbourne is a wonder in itself. It sits astride the lovely Yarra River at the very top of Port Phillip Bay and is also a gateway to Victoria. The stunning combination of the old and the new, skyscrapers and ethnic communities, lavish parks, gardens and also old heritage buildings- it’s a visual delight. The country’s second largest city with modern towers and preserved Victorian era architecture is a perfect base to travel to the Yarra Valley.

From Melbourne’s very own eclectic precincts city fringe to Dardenong Ranges, Mornington Peninsula, or Phillip Islands – it’s a great place to be. High end cuisines to low brow rock gigs, the city’s calendar remains pretty much full. Explore the historic arcades; take a stroll in the the byways lined with fine dining restaurants, lively entertainment and lovely boutique shopping.

If you are an outdoor buff, you would not be disappointed with what the city has to offer. From cycling to golf, fishing to water sports, make the most of the city’s river, parks, bays and coastlines. Sandy beaches, seeing Melbourne from a hot air balloon, kite boarding or kayaking in the moonlight- there is so much to do.

Melbourne  is the state capital of Victoria in Australia . It is with 3.37 million inhabitants (2006) for Sydney ‘s second largest city of the Australian continent . In the metropolitan area ( Melbourne Statistical Division ) live 4.08 million people (2006).  The people of Melbourne are called in English “Melburnians”.  in Melbourne in 1837 after the then British Prime Minister Lord Melbourne named and is a Catholic and an Anglican archbishop’s seat.

The core of the City of Melbourne City with 71 380 inhabitants (2006) and 30 other communities existing agglomeration is the most important economic, cultural and political center of Victoria. The population of the city include many immigrants , the Chinese, British, Greek, Italian, Irish, Croatian and Vietnamese origin. Based on surveys of the magazine The Economist has been in Melbourne in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2011 voted the most livable city in the world (taking into account the cultural realities of the climate, the cost of living and the social environment).
