San Salvador is the capital of El Salvador. The city is best explored by taxi or bus. It recommends a tour with the number 44 The brave take a “coaster” that go with flash, music and speeding through the neighborhood Zacamil Boulevard to Santa Helena de Héroes. On the way there are shopping centers and Cascadas Metrocentro. The historic center is like a huge bazaar. There are others clothes, music and DVD’s at bargain prices. Bargaining is allowed! In addition to the many markets you will find the Cathedral, several colonial churches and beautiful “plazas” (parks).
San Salvador is located at the foot of the volcano, Boqueron and throughout its history was affected several times by earthquakes. The worst earthquake in 1854 destroyed the city almost completely. The last earthquake occurred in 2001 and caused considerable damage. In particular, the suburban Las Colinas was destroyed by a landslide the most part.
The city was in 1528 by Spanish conquistador Gonzalo de Alvarado founded. in 1824 it became the capital of that year established the Central American Confederation .
