Nice is a port city in southern France in the region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) near the border with Italy, between Cannes and Monaco on the Cote d’Azur the Mediterranean Sea located. Nice is the seat of the prefecture of the department of Alpes-Maritimes. Together with 23 surrounding communities is Nice Communauté d’agglomération de Nice-Côte d’Azur. Nice to Marseille is the second largest city in the Provence region PACA and the fifth largest city in France. The population and surrounding area is 930,000 inhabitants.
Nice, southeastern France and in the direct extension of the Mercantour Massif (Maritime Alps), west of Var bounded in the East Valley and the Mont Boron. The distance to the Principality of Monaco is about 10 kilometers, the distance to the Italian border 30 kilometers. The inhabitants are called Nice Nice designated in the original French Niçois. In Nizzardischen country still partially is Occitan dialect, the so-called Nissart spoken.
Every year in February on the occasion of the Carnival of Nice takes on the showpiece street Promenade des Anglais in the rest of Europe has become known flower parade with beautifully decorated floats and countless flower arrangements instead. Due to security concerns during the Africa-France summit in Nice in 2010, the Conference of the 37th G8 Summit (26 to 27 May 2011) relocated to Deauville.
