Manarola is a small town, a fraction of the Municipality of Riomaggiore, in the province of La Spezia (Liguria, northern Italy) on the Ligurian Sea. It is part of a group of coastal towns frequented by tourists called Cinque Terre named a World Heritage Site. It seems that Manarola is the oldest towns in the Cinque Terre, as witness a cornerstone of the church of San Lorenzo dating from 1160. The local dialect is manarolese slightly different dialects of the area.

Manarola’s primary industries have traditionally been fishing and viticulture. The local wine, called Sciacchetr√†, is especially renowned, there are references in Roman sources to the high quality of wine produced in the region. In recent years, Manarola and its neighboring cities have become popular tourist destinations, especially in the summer months. Some tourist attractions in the region are a popular trail that links along the coast, Manarola and Riomaggiore (called Via dell’Amore, “Way of Love”) and routes through the hills and vineyards surrounding the town.
