Haleakala National Park – Maui, Hawaii

Haleakala National Park is a national park of the United States on the island of Maui in Hawaii, i . Haleakala is a dormant volcano that erupted last around 1790. The National Park was in 1916 as part of the Hawai i National Park was founded. in 1961 , the territory of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park separated and managed independently. Since 1980, the park is an international biosphere reserve.

The huge crater of the 3055-meter-high Haleakala volcano is an extension of 49 km ². The crater is actually a strong rains washed over thousands of large pools with several volcanic cones and thick layers of ash and pumice . Every morning many visitors come to the summit to watch the spectacular sunrise. More visitors also enjoy the magnificent sunsets. A very good road leads to the summit. On the way there are many attractive views. Several hiking trails lead through the crater, which is also one of the three basic accommodation ( Wilderness cabins : Holua, Kapalaoa, Palikū) lead and the two campgrounds.

The second section located on the coast of the national park, is Kipahulu called. Since it is not possible to reach the summit of Haleakala there you need to use the visitor a winding coastal road. The ride on the Road to Hana said road from Kahului to Kipahulu is an attraction in itself and takes about 4 hours. Based on the Kipahulu Visitor Center can be reached after a one-hour hike to the Falls Waimoku , a 100-foot waterfall. Another attraction are the more than two dozen ponds along the stream Palikea that are used by many visits as a welcome relief.
