Fremantle is a city on the west coast of Australia . It is named after the British Admiral Charles Fremantle named who took the area in May 1829 for the British Crown. The name is stressed on the first syllable, in a colloquial short form it is “Freo” called. The city lies at the mouth of the Swan River , 19 kilometers southwest of the Central Business District of Perth .Fremantle has a climate similar to Mediterranean climate in Europe as in the area of Greece and Southern Italy: hot, dry summer with only a few days of rain and cool, wet winters.
Fremantle is one of the cultural centers of Perth. Of prisoners, the building from the colonial era , the old jetty and port, the Maritime Museum and many other buildings of general historical interest can be found here. This includes the Roundhouse , the oldest surviving building in Western Australia, which was built in 1830/1831 as a prison.
