Durban is a city on the Indian Ocean on the east coast of South Africa . With surrounding communities, it forms the eThekwini metropolitan municipality . With over 3.1 million inhabitants (2001 census) is the largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and to Johannesburg ‘s second largest city in South Africa . Durban is a major port and industrial city with the largest port in Africa and because of its beaches and subtropical climate, a popular holiday center in the country.

Durban is situated on the southeastern coast of South Africa in KwaZulu-Natal, on the east by the Indian Ocean and the west of the Drakensberg is limited, with peaks rising above 3000 meters altitude. While the hinterland mainly savanna is, prevails on the coast with a moist, subtropical climate. The annual rainfall is about 1000 mm, falling mainly in summer, which is very hot. The climate of Durban is a coastal city by the warm waters of the Agulhas current , influenced by the Mozambique runs along the coast to the south.
