The National Park of Chapada dos Veadeiros (CVNP) is a preserved area of cerrado in elevation, located in Chapada dos Veadeiros, with about 40% of its area in the municipality of Alto Paraíso de Goiás and the rest in the town of Cavalcante in the north of the State of Goiás.
The unit is on land ranging between 1,400 and 1,667 m in the Chapada dos Veadeiros, a ridge that acts as a watershed of the Amazon basin (Tocantins and Maranhão) and Platinum (Paranoá River), and that is the pediplano higher Central Brazil, including the High Hill Landing, the culmination of Goiás (1667 m) near Alto Paraiso , outside the Park. The area is an important dispersal center drain, with most of its river valleys digging into “V”. Among these rivers, the principal is the Black River, a tributary of the Tocantins. The Park is geocoordenadas between 13 º 51 ’14 ° 10′ south latitude and 47 ° 25 ’47 ° 42′ west longitude. The walks to the park’s attractions are on average 4.5 km + 4.5 km one way back, giving access to the Salto do Rio Preto or “waterfalls garimpão” at Carioquinhas and Canyons 1 and 2. All these formations are in hydrological Black River, the border between the towns of Alto Paraíso and Cavalcanti.
Among the species of fauna that inhabit the park, about fifty are classified as rare, endemic or at risk of extinction in the area. Mammals to highlight: maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) , deer ( Blastocerus dichotomus ), pampas deer ( Ozotocerus bezoarticus ), armadillo (Priodontes giganteus) , giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) , capybara (Hidrochaeris hidrochaeris) and tapir ( Tapirus terrestris) . With regard to birds of 312 species stand out from the Merganser ( Mergus octosetaceus ), endemic and endangered, the rhea (Rhea americana) , Toucan-green-billed toucan (Ramphastos dicolorus) , king vulture ( Sarcoramphus Pope ), burrowing owl ( Athene cunicularia ) and several species of hawks . Regarding flora, have been identified 1,476 species of plants in the park, of which 6429 are in the Cerrado. The grassland vegetation type houses, dirty fields, trails and riparian forests. In the fields and paths, beautiful formations palm buriti ( Mamita flexuosa ) accompanying damp places, springs, and waterways brejais.
Climate – Tropical Altitude. From October to April rains, streams of water and waterspouts happen, and the park may suspend permission for swimming in the river, depending on the situation. From May to September no rain, dry vegetation, and waterfalls of the park look even more beautiful at the end of the trail.
