Bologna, also called Bologna is an Italian city with 382,825 inhabitants (2011), located in northern Italy. Bologna is also the capital of the province and the region of Emilia-Romagna. The city lies at the foot of the Apennines and between the rivers Reno and Savena. Roughly, the city southwest of Venice and east of La Spezia.

Bologna is in terms of population the seventh largest city in Italy and is the heart of one of the towns in Italy. The total size of the metropolis lies in the region of 1 million inhabitants. The count is based on the agglomeration Bologna Modena, which two cities almost contiguous. Bologna has always been a university town. The University of Bologna, with its foundation in 1088 the oldest university in Europe. The students form a cultural and social revitalization of the city. The city was selected to participate in the World Expo in Shanghai in 2010 as one of 45 selected cities in the world.
