Alcudia is a municipality on the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca. The same small town is the administrative seat of the municipality in the region (Comarca) Raiguer. The municipality has 19 243 inhabitants, Alcudia (as of 1 January 2011) on an area of 59.89 km². This corresponds to 321 inhabitants per km². In 2006, the proportion of foreigners 25.5% (4128), the proportion of German population 3.1% (499). Official languages are Catalan and Spanish (Castilian). The Catalan spoken in the island dialect is mallorquí called.alcudia
The name “Alcudia” comes from the Arabic “Al-Qudya” and means “the hill”, which indicates the position of the historic city core, on the saddle between the Bay of Pollença is situated and the Bay of Alcudia, which by a flat Mountains are separated from each other.
The community lies 54 kilometers from Alcudia on the island’s capital Palma, along the northeast coast opposite the island. It forms the northeastern landscape Raiguer and consists of the peninsula of Cap des Pinar (also Victòria called), which divides the bays of Pollença and Alcudia, and a zone of the interior of the island, bordered by the towns of Pollença in the north and Sa Pobla and Muro in South. The town of Alcudia is located approximately in the middle of the municipal area, just between the two bays, Badia de Pollença and Badia d’Alcudia, at the foot of the peninsula. Its port Port d’Alcudia, now a tourist destination, lies south of the city on the bay of Alcudia. The coastline of the municipality has a length of about 30 kilometers.
The tourism boom began, as all over the island in 1960 years. Since then, Alcudia was important commercial and tourist center of Majorca. 2003, around 29,500 hotel beds around Alcudia just under 15,000 inhabitants. Alcudia offers many opportunities for tourists:
- The sandy beach stretches about 25 kilometers along the Bay of Alcudia.
- The nearby mountains offer opportunities for hiking and mountain biking, but also for cycling in the vast plain.
- All water sports – the bay of Alcudia is a popular sailing area.
- A yacht harbor ( Marina ) has room for hundreds of pleasure boats.
